Volcanic ash travel disruptions
Last updated: 20th May 2010
As the Icelandic volcano continues to erupt, the situation will remain dynamic
for the foreseeable future. However, new definitions from the Civil Aviation Authority announced on
17
th May that allow aircraft to safely fly through ‘medium density’ ash are expected to
minimise travel disruptions further.
CWT provides the following advice to help travellers when affected by delays and
cancellations:
• Travellers are reminded to ensure their full contact details, particularly mobile
numbers and email addresses, are listed in their CWT profile to allow CWT to readily assist and
contact travellers when disruptions occur.
• Travellers are advised to check their carrier’s website for the most current flight
information before departing for the airport.
• If needed, CWT clients are encouraged to run
Traveller Locator reports in the
CWT Programme Management Centre (PMC) to identify any affected travellers.
CWT will continue to monitor the situation and provide alerts via CWT HotNews
communications when necessary.
