Hotel security during the Olympics

While the Olympics are a great business opportunity for hotels in London, they also present a potential security threat.

What’s it all about?

During the summer, security specialists began testing Olympic venues in and around London against all potential terrorist threats; with a recent report in The Telegraph revealing £600 million has been set aside to deal with possible physical and cyber attacks.

What is being done to protect London hotels?

We spoke to several hotel chains and the Metropolitan Police Service to see what steps are being taken to protect those in London hotels during the Olympics and beyond.

“The Met has a number of mechanisms to work with businesses and industry to provide appropriate security and crime prevention advice”. Metropolitan Police Service

“The Olympics is a huge challenge on a scale never encountered before and we will be going above and beyond our normal security measures”. Debbie Husband, Travelodge

“... robust security policies and procedures are in place across the business, appropriate to the location of hotels. These include teams of analysts in Washington DC and Hong Kong, combined with local intelligence, to monitor a variety of information sources on potential risks”. Malcolm Clark, Marriott

Hotel security is an ongoing, highly-regulated system that needs to be effective in discovering, analysing and preventing threats to guest safety and security; giving us peace of mind and enabling us to enjoy a successful Olympic event in 2012.
