Preparing UK business for the 2012 Olympics
The 2012 London Olympics may be one of the biggest events to ever happen in the UK, but business still has to be done and therefore business travel is still necessary, no matter how many gold medals (or otherwise) the team win!
What’s it all about?
London is going to be busy next summer (understatement of the year).
Ok so you probably didn’t need us to tell you that but there are a lot of things CWT can do to ensure things run smoothly when securing hotel rooms or meeting space to help your business take advantage, or just survive the London 2012 Olympics.
Our tips
- Formulate your company Olympic strategy now! Particularly if you will need hotel rooms in London between 27 July and 9 September 2012
- Use the CWT Programme Management Centre to assess average demand for travel in London for this time of year, based on prior years’ data
- Talk to experts from CWT Hotel Solutions if you require additional assistance in benchmarking and contracting hotels
- Be aware of key dates; not only the Olympics, there’s also Wimbledon, the Chelsea Flower Show and the Diamond Jubilee
- Finally, scrutinise any terms you are offered and get everything in writing!
In more depth
- Did you know there will be...
- 17,000 athletes from 200 countries competing in 26 different sports
- 20,000 journalists covering the event and 63,000 staff and volunteers
- 500,000 spectators holding tightly onto 9 million tickets
That’s a lot of extra people for London’s trains, planes, cabs and hotels! If that doesn’t cause you to spring immediately into action like an Olympian then maybe this will...
- most London hotels have already contracted 60% of their rooms to the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) for sponsors, the media, participants and visiting dignitaries
- Any unwanted rooms won’t be released until April and May 2012
