First Major Press Awards for Business Travel Industry

Top press awards were collected by, among others, the Financial Times, Sunday Times journalist Dominic O’Connell and CNN and its presenter Richard Quest at the first ever CWT Business Travel Journalism Awards in London last night (25 November, 2004).

Held at One Whitehall Place in central London, the CWT Business Travel Journalism Awards were created and organized by Carlson Wagonlit Travel, one of the world’s top travel management companies. They were supported and sponsored by other leading travel organizations and a technology company.

Executive Vice President North Europe for Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Jim Tweedie, commenting on the awards said: “Business travel is a multi-billion dollar global business. It is one of the highest items of expenditure for most companies and organizations, regardless of their size. It is a complex and fast-changing industry and, like any professional discipline, it needs its experts. And, it needs a strong, independent and knowledgeable media.

“The media plays an important part in the business travel mix and they deserve our recognition and encouragement – and that is why we launched these awards.

“The aim of the CWT Business Travel Journalism Awards is to encourage growth in the coverage of business travel, raise and maintain the standards of coverage and reward those individuals and publications that have achieved excellence.”

The awards had the support of and sponsorship from Eurostar, Hertz, NH Hotels, Star Alliance, Thistle Hotels – and technology company Intel.

CWT Business Travel Journalism Awards 2004

“Corporate travel is a multi-billion dollar global business. It is a complex and fast-changing industry and, like any professional discipline, it needs its experts.”

“The aim of the Carlson Wagonlit Travel Business Travel Journalism Awards 2004 is to encourage growth in the coverage of business travel, raise and maintain standards of coverage and reward those individuals and publications that have achieved excellence - and made a major contribution to the industry in the last year.

“The awards have the support of some of our leading travel industry partners – Eurostar, Hertz, Star Alliance and Thistle Hotels - along with Intel from the technology sector. They have generously agreed to become sponsors.

“The judging panel will comprise representatives from leading industry bodies, top corporations and the sponsor companies.
